Empowering actors as filmmakers
Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland (Screen Ireland) and Bow Street Academy, the National Screen Acting School of Ireland are proud to have supported three rounds to date of the Actor as Creator series.
Aimed specifically at supporting unique creative voices within the Irish screen acting community to create a diverse range of original new work.

Previous recipients of The Actor of Creator have gone on to have their work featured at a variety of Irish and international film festivals including the Dublin International Film Festival, Galway Film Fleadh, Cork International Film Festival, and the Irish Film Festival London. Most recently, Hannah Mamalis’ Baby Steps won the James Flynn Award for Best First Short Drama at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, while Kate Stanley Brennan’s Panto received the Best Short Film title at Women in Film and Television Ireland’s annual short film showcase.
The successful recipients will each receive €5,000 in funding to
originate, perform, and produce a short creative filmic work. The
successful pieces will be showcased widely after completion. Additional skills development support will be delivered online for the successful recipients through Screen Ireland’s skills development team and Bow Street Academy. This initiative is also supported by Irish Equity.
“The Actor as Creator” is open to experienced screen actors. Actors are asked to submit a proposal based on a concept, script and / or character they have originated. The successful recipient will originate, perform, and produce the short filmic work of no longer than 14 mins duration.
The commissioned actor must be the key performer. Originality, distinctiveness, and personal expression are to be the focus rather than production values. A range of skills tutorials/webinars will be delivered online through Screen Ireland and Bow Street Academy to support the selected actors.
